There have been a few occasions where flytipping has occurred outside Gellionnen.  Unfortunately the scale of this seems to be on the increase, as these photos show.

It is saddening to think that people could so carelessly dump rubbish on such a beautiful mountain, let alone near Gellionnen Chapel. What seems strange is that nearby there is a waste management site (or 'tip') very near to us, at Pwllfawatkin.  We've heard of the laziness of those who drop litter on the floor when a bin isn't that far away, but there is a large amount of effort involved in getting a heavy load (of anything) up the mountain to Gellionnen.  Aside from being an inconvenience to those of us who have to club together and move the rubbish ourselves (bit by bit) and an unsightly heap to those who travel across the mountain, it makes no logical sense!!

Even more annoying is the thought that 'usable' things are being dumped - things that would be of great help to reclamation schemes for the needy, or even to a local charity shop.

Another important consideration is that the rubbish is potentially dangerous to cattle that roam the mountain.

If you have any thoughts on the above problem, please email us (gellionnen@hotmail.com) or post a message on our Message Board.
